Born in 1959, Tom Neubauer moved to Berlin in 1985 and has since then taken photography with a commending sense of composition and intense awareness of its subjects. This remarkable archive of alternative or marginalized narratives is presented in carefully composed series through slide projections. The artist favors the fleeting medium of projection as a possibility to represent human condition in its temporal rhythm, a virtual reconstruction of long-term personal transformation. Each composition is unique and constituted from 80 slides drawn from a pool of 10.000 photographs yearly edited and updated with new images.
Erasing the opposition between poetry and realism, the individual and historical narrative, this work constitutes a unique reflection of the ruptures and alteration of the German metropolis and human beings at large.
